…and that’s pretty much the end of the story. A couple of days ago, I picked up my head out of the sand and remembered that recording the music isn’t my only responsibility/commitment to this project. For starters, I owe a lot of people a lot of stuff! A large part of the fundraiser’s success was that I was offering giveaways for donations, including CDs, t-shirts, and mixes! Woah! I’ve got some work to do!
With the help of some friends and a local t-shirt cooperative, I ordered some organic, sweatshop-free shirts, bought and burned some screens and spent an afternoon printing the design onto them. That’s right, hand-made! By me! And my friends!
It took my quite a while to be satisfied that these t-shirts were free of chemicals and slavery. I felt like, especially considering the message on the shirt (“Clothe Yourself in Righteousness“), it was simply not OK to turn a blind eye on small hands that worked too many hours for pennies or pesticides and chemicals that are polluting the creation.
In the end, I feel satisfied but a little annoyed that it isn’t easier to get bulk t-shirts that are not born of evil. If this is the type of thing that you’re anal retentive about also, you can check my work. The men’s shirts came from Alstyle (1101: Made in USA) and the women’s came from Anvil.
(and they weren’t cheap! But they are very nice!!)
